about

With the honor of being the daughter of one of the greatest and most celebrated producers, arrangers and maestros in Brazil, and the mission of following his legacy by bringing the Brazilian musical DNA to the dance floor, Mary Olivetti features her new single in reverence and tribute to his father, Lincoln Olivetti. Originally released in 1978 by the Rio de Janeiro band Painel de Controle on RCA Victor, "Black Coco" is now recreated by the DJ with the vocal of the famous singer-songwriter Mahmundi, in a release of Cocada Music.

By working on dance music, Mary not only recreated "Black Coco" on the computer, but also invited part of the band to participate. To do so, she brought Paulinho Guitarra to the instrument that lives up his artistic name, Rodrigo Taves on keys, Daniel Mansur on bass and Henrique Rocha on percussion. In addition to directing and producing music, the artist also participated in the recording with backing vocals, along with Pernambuco singer Barro.

Nowadays a little-known track, but it is a hit on underground Brazilian music dance floors around the world, "Black Coco" was the first great success of Lincoln Olivetti's career, who worked on it not only as an arranger, but also as author, together with the singer and composer Ronaldo Barcellos. At the time, the song reached the top of the charts on national radio, and it was also the opening theme of the soap opera "Te Contei" of TV Globo.

"'Black Coco' was the kick-off in my father's career as an arranger. The original version always messed with me. It brings a tropical Brazilian atmosphere that reminds us of the Northeast, but with the groove of 70s soul music", explains Mary Olivetti, whose idea was also honoring "Rock Your Baby", the main success of American soul singer George McCrae, which ended up being an inspiration for the harmony and timbres planned by Lincoln at the time. "So I decided to unite them in this new version, making a sublime allusion to the initial reference", she points out.

"For the main vocals, I decided to invite Mahmundi, a great artist of new Brazilian music with a focus on the indie scene. I thought she would fit perfectly in the new version, bringing freshness to the project, in addition to her beautiful sweet voice", she continues.

"It is important to think of our new 'Black Coco' as a powerful export and summer track. It has the Brazilian DNA, our swing, our color, culture, our party. Brazil for the dance floor — a trend that I come proudly reaffirming on each release," concludes Mary.
